PROFITS FLOWING

Mar, 2010

AORTIC devices, in vitro fertilisation technology and specialised needles are some of the products William A. Cook Australia manufactures from its Brisbane base.

Following a business model that takes promising medical inventions to commercialisation, Asia Pacific director Barry Thomas tells Brisbane Business News why export opportunities will help the business triple over the next five years.

AMID increasing financial strain, global health systems need all the effective inventions they can get to keep the organs pumping for the patients and businesses themselves.

This is where Cook Medical comes in. The global company opened its Asia-Pacific base in Melbourne in the late 70s, but with attractive prospects in Queensland it was the first mover into the Brisbane Technology Park at Eight Mile Plains in 1988.

Since then it has built a customer base that brought $183 million in sales revenue last year, of which $40 million was in exports.
